The Tartar Steppe Review Essay Example
The Tartar Steppe Review Paper Essay on The Tartar Steppe I read books I choose spontaneously. Hand offhand pulls with bookshelves Tomiki .. opens at a random location and tasting the eye. One paragraph is usually enough. And what is most interesting, something like this is that the next book will show exactly the most relevant questions for me. Let not the right, but at least indirectly. About the book Dino Buzzati The Tartar Steppe we can say that it was not just a response to my questions of middle-aged men. It was the last Chinese warning that fate put in my hands. Such a direct allegory of his own life, Ive never met In front of me appeared on the pages of the book one persons life -. Officer Giovanni Drogo, who devoted himself to the army. And went to serve in an abandoned frontier fortress, which became in the end it mousetrap More specifically mousetrap was not the army as such, and not even the fortress, and the illusion that taking some decisions in our lives, we always we are able to cancel them, change; hitting a dead end in life, at any time, be able to go back. When Giovanni still had the strength to do it. But Drogo ignored them and with this first step event raced in Rapid shooting a mans life in front of unfolded bud, blossomed and withered curled lump. And, as the story progresses the speed of the fading only increased What, in my opinion, was the reason for such an exchange of life Giovanni -. Any step towards illusion, any concession to her, her makeup changes us It makes more weak-willed, conformal The illusion addictive. Today, you say to yourself no, I do not like it, but I put up, gather strength and I will tear. Besides, Im not alone here, we can not as we all make mistakes And after a while you already see the open doors and you do not want to go through them you become a stranger to the world of freedom, youve already formatted Similarly, it seems a world of heroes Kobo Abes Woman in the Dunes, who also spent all of his life force to internally search for the meaning of the eternal struggle with the sand at some point refuse to newfound freedom. Consciousness, turned inside out for freedom is no longer needed. I do not know how I would have reacted to the book Dino Buzzati, I read it in his youth. Might have said to himself, thats for sure no matter what illusions do not get caught. But I read it, already being tightly strung on a hook of self-deception. And, probably, because of its OTFORMATIROVANY, I was horrified to this discovery. With some hooks, I did not tear. But life is full and those who lie in wait for me, today, and tomorrow. And can, thanks to this book, I have at least a part of the illusion was waiting for me I can still get around and snatch yourself at least a piece of freedom.

Doric Columns - All You Need to Know
Doric Columns - All You Need to Know The Doric column is an architectural element from ancient Greece and represents one of the five orders of classical architecture. Today this simple column can be found supporting many front porches across America. In public and commercial architecture, notably the public architecture in Washington, DC, the Doric column is a defining feature of Neoclassical style buildings. A Doric column has a very plain, straightforward design, much more simple than the later Ionic and Corinthian column styles. A Doric column is also thicker and heavier than an Ionic or Corinthian column. For this reason, the Doric column is sometimes associated with strength and masculinity. Believing that Doric columns could bear the most weight, ancient builders often used them for the lowest level of multi-story buildings, reserving the more slender Ionic and Corinthian columns for the upper levels. Ancient builders developed several Orders, or rules, for the design and proportion of buildings, including the columns. Doric is one of the earliest and most simple of the Classical Orders set down in ancient Greece. An Order includes the vertical column and the horizontal entablature. Doric designs developed in the western Dorian region of Greece in about the 6th century BC. They were used in Greece until about 100 BC. Romans adapted the Greek Doric column but also developed their own simple column, which they called Tuscan. Characteristics of the Doric Column Greek Doric columns share these features: a shaft that is fluted or grooveda shaft that is wider at the bottom than the topno base or pedestal at the bottom, so it is placed directly on the floor or ground levelanà echinus or a smooth, round capital-like flare at the top of the shafta square abacus on top of the round echinus, which disperses and evens the loada lack of ornamentation or carvings of any kind, although sometimes a stone ring called an astragal marks the transition of the shaft to the echinus Doric columns come in two varieties, Greek and Roman. A Roman Doric column is similar to Greek, with two exceptions: Roman Doric columns often have a base on the bottom of the shaft.Roman Doric columns are usually taller than their Greek counterparts, even if the shaft diameters are the same. Architecture Built With Doric Columns Since the Doric column was invented in ancient Greece, it can be found in the ruins of what we call Classical architecture, the buildings of early Greece and Rome. Many buildings in a Classical Greek city would have been constructed with Doric columns. Symmetrical rows of columns were placed with mathematical precision in iconic structures like the Parthenon Temple at the Acropolis in Athens. Constructed between 447 BC and 438 BC., the Parthenon in Greece has become an international symbol of Greek civilization and an iconic example of the Doric column style. Another landmark example of Doric design, with columns surrounding the entire building, is the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens. Likewise, the Temple of the Delians, a small, quiet space overlooking a harbor, also reflects the Doric column design. On a walking tour of Olympia, youll find a solitary Doric column at the Temple of Zeus still standing amid the ruins of fallen columns. Column styles evolved over several centuries. The massive Colosseum in Rome has Doric columns on the first level, Ionic columns on the second level, and Corinthian columns on the third level. When Classicism was reborn during the Renaissance, architects such as Andrea Palladio gave the Basilica in Vicenza a 16th-century facelift by combining column types on different levels- Doric columns on the first level, Ionic columns above. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Neoclassical buildings were inspired by the architecture of early Greece and Rome. Neoclassical columns imitate the Classical styles at the 1842 Federal Hall Museum and Memorial at 26 Wall Street in New York City. The 19th-century architects used Doric columns to recreate the grandeur of the site where the first President of the United States was sworn in. Of less grandeur is the World War I Memorial shown on this page. Built in 1931 in Washington, DC, it is a small, circular monument inspired by the architecture of the Doric temple in ancient Greece. A more dominant example of Doric column use in Washington, DC is the creation of architect Henry Bacon, who gave the neoclassical Lincoln Memorial imposing Doric columns, suggesting order and unity. The Lincoln Memorial was built between 1914 and 1922. Finally,à in the years leading up to Americas Civil War, many of the large, elegant antebellum plantations were built in the Neoclassical style with classically-inspired columns. These simple but grand column types are found throughout the world, wherever classic grandeur is required in local architecture. Islamic Banking - Research Proposal Example There has been increasing number of people with growing interest in the Islamic banking as a phenomenon and a lot of questions have been raised on its differences from conventional banking. This study will investigate the question that is often raised by most people whether it is an economic or a religious bank. The success of the research depends on the use of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. The qualitative methods include interviews conducted face-to-face, online and over the telephone. The interviews cover standard closed question requiring a limited range of answers. Decision to Charge Appropriate Interest Rate Essay
Decision to Charge Appropriate Interest Rate - Essay Example However, if any of the above mentioned determinants, fails to meet the expectations of the investors, then investors become shaky regarding their investments. The investors are mainly of two types, one who receives the ownership of the business by purchasing the shares of the company, in this way they invest in the company and are known as shareholders. They demand their return in two major ways i.e. dividends (distribution of profits) and capital gain (increase in the value of shares). On the other hand, the other kind of investors, are the creditors and they provide loans to the business such that amount of loan is repayable in certain time against which they demand a return in the form of interest. Generally, if the financial prospects of the business seem sound in the future, shareholders also require more return. However, if the financial prospects of the company are to show more vulnerability and inconsistency, then loan providers charge higher interest because their investment comes at stake due to increasing risk of solvency, bankruptcy and likelihood of inability of business to pay interest and principal. In short, out of the two types of investors, i.e. shareholders and debt holders, this particular article mainly focuses upon the required rate of return demanded by the debt holders only. Generally if an organizationââ¬â¢s future financial outlook seems to be stable and bright looking, the debt holders prefer that organization to invest in as they would find their investment less risky as compared to that organization which is found to be struggling in dealing with its financial prospects. To be more specific, debt holders will charge less interest to that business which has consistent and growing cash flows, profitability, less amount of debt included in the overall capital structure and increasing net worth of the business. All of the above mentioned factors are the determinants of a safe, prosperous and better looking business. Conversely, debt holders would charge a relatively higher interest from those businesses which have inconsistent cash flows and profitability, highly indebted and having vulnerable net worth of the business in upcoming periods. Debt holders find their investment highly risky and as a result of bearing that extra risk, they demand higher interest to compensate that risk. As far as ACME Consulting Business is concerned, its cash balance is going to increase at double rate on yearly basis with the amounts of $39K, $138K and $177K. The net profit margin is also estimated to increase as it will be 0.33%, 4.87% and 5.94% respectively. Total Debt to Total Asset ratio will also be expected to decline from 76.55% to 61.24% in three years time. Lastly, Net Worth to Total assets of the business is estimated to increase from 65.09% to 86.31% in the same period. Debt ratio of the business is however higher than industry which is a questioning sign for the business. Net Worth ratio is better than the industry whi ch can be a positive sign for the business in future. For Interstate Travel Center, the cash balance will also be increased at almost a double pace, with

Dophus Raymond Essay Example for Free
Dophus Raymond Essay In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the people of Maycomb are prejudice. According to them, the only way a white man would be able to like a black man more than a white man is if he was an alcoholic or had some type of dysfunction. This applies to the majority of the people in Maycomb. Dolphus Raymond, however, is not part of this stereotype. He doesnââ¬â¢t have a dysfunction and only pretends to be an alcoholic. Mr. Raymond is both caring and sly. When Dolphus Raymond sees Dill come out of the courthouse crying, he tries to comfort him and help him feel better. This shows that Dolphus Raymond is caring. Dolphus Raymond then calls Dill to come to him and says, ââ¬Å"Here, offering Dill his paper sack with straws in it. Take a good sip, itââ¬â¢ll quieten you. â⬠(Lee, 200) This shows he is caring because he gives Dill some of his Coca-Cola to help him. Mr. Raymond reaches out to Dill when he is crying to help him feel better. Then, after Scout asks why he pretends to be an alcoholic he says,â⬠Wh-oh yes, you mean why do I pretend? â⬠¦. Some folks donââ¬â¢t-like the way I live. Now I could just say to hell with ââ¬Ëem, I donââ¬â¢t care if they donââ¬â¢t like it. I do say I donââ¬â¢t care if they donââ¬â¢t like it, right enough-but I donââ¬â¢t say the hell with ââ¬Ëem see? â⬠(Lee, 200) This shows that even though people donââ¬â¢t like the way he lives, he still pretends to be an alcoholic for people to latch on a reason why he lives the way he does. Also, even though itââ¬â¢s fake, he gives them a reason to understand why he lives a certain way.. Dolphus Raymond is sly as well. When Scout finds out whiskey isnââ¬â¢t in the sack she says,â⬠You mean all you drink in that sackââ¬â¢s Coca-Cola? Just plain Coca-Cola? â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes maââ¬â¢am, Mr. Raymond nodded. (Lee, 200) He pretends to drink whiskey to help people latch on a reason why he likes blacks more than whites. Dolphus Raymond pretends to drink whiskey, but everyone else is the town thinks it is whiskey. People donââ¬â¢t understand his ways, so they just blame it on his drinking because they donââ¬â¢t understand how he could like a black man more than a white one. He walks around pretending he is drunk. â⬠When I came into town, which is seldom, if I weave a little and drink out of this sack, folks can says Dolphus Raymondââ¬â¢s in the clutch of whiskey-thatââ¬â¢s why he wont change his ways. (Lee, 200) People think he has poor judgment because he pretends to be drunk, so they believe he wonââ¬â¢t be able to change his ways. He is also acting like an alcoholic and like a drunk, so people can have a reason to understand why he lives his life the way he does. Dolphus Raymond isnââ¬â¢t an alcoholic or a drunk. He shows how caring and sly he is when he talks to the kids outside the courthouse. The people of Maycomb just canââ¬â¢t understand his reasoning concerning blacks and whites. They expect him to live prejudice like them. He has to pretend to be disorderly, so people can have a reason for his actions and preferences.

Descriptive Essay: A Beautiful Place :: Descriptive Essay Example
I think we all have a beautiful place in our mind. I have a wonderful place that made me happy a lot of times, years ago. But sometimes I think that I am the only person who likes this place and I'm asking myself if this place will be as beautiful as I thought when I will go back to visit it again. Perhaps I made it beautiful in my mind. This place is meaningful to me because it is part of the county I loved, is part of the county where I grew up and is part of my childhood. This place is in the country in an old region named Appalachia, a small piece of the Appalachian Mountains, in a town named Pikeville. Pikeville is a polluted town because of the coal industry. People live in apartment or condominium buildings because of its little space available. I grew up in one of the many buildings in Pikeville admiring from my bedroom window the beauty of the mountains, always exploring with my eyes the forest or the meadows, looking for a clean and quiet place. And, I found one on a hill in the back of the town. It is about 100 feet square, it has seven old trees, wild flowers and a lot of bugs and ants during summer time. I used to go there to sit down on a rock and watch the town and my trees. There was a very old tree, a maple tree, with a huge trunk. The others were smaller, three in the back, three on my left side and the old maple tree on my right. There were flowers, many kinds, white, yellow, purple and blue. It was nobody's place. Nobody owned that hill, but it was beautiful and peaceful and I dreamed many times about a white house over there. I think that, these kinds of places are meaningful to people because they are natural and people can be there alone, away from their everyday life. I used to go there to be alone or to dream with my eyes open admiring the blue sky or the clouds. I liked to go there to lay down on the grass, listen to the wind, kiss the flowers and watch the leaves moving. It was hard to go up the hill to get there, but I wanted to see everyday my seven trees, to see how the color of the leaves changed and to feel the softness of the grass. Absent Father
No Love Lost, No Love Found That father and daughter bond, the sweetest love Iââ¬â¢ve never known. Iââ¬â¢ve seen my father over a thousand times wondering if heââ¬â¢s ever seen me. Looking with his eyes wide shut. It seemed as if over the years he was disappearing, fading into the black. A fragment of what I thought I needed but in all reality became as pointless as the conclusion to book that Iââ¬â¢ll never finish My father has managed for eighteen years to be a part of my life without being a part of my life. He lives right around the corner from me in a two story home thatââ¬â¢s painted light brown. It looked like s fluffy double stacked pancakes and when the sun hit the satellite dish on the top of the roof it made the top half of the house shine like syrup running off the top. For a while all I knew my father by was this house, I got ideas of what he might be like by looking at this house. I thought of him as a full bodied man because instead of having one front do or he had two. So I thought maybe he couldnââ¬â¢t fit through just one. I imagined him as a strong wide bodied linebacker with a soft side due to the fact that he had a colorful; well-kept garden on the side of the house. The day I met my dad not my father who had raised me but my dad. I truly realized that I was imagining him with my heart and not my mind. He stood as tall as a palm tree sighting beach side, with arms as long as a boardwalk. He never even attempted to say a word to me or ask me how I was doing in school. Instead he pieced me with his beany brown eyes that appeared to be rising off of a yellow back drop. He looked at me as if I had stolen his joy. I reached out to hug him but he reached out his hand for me to shake instead. His fingers felt like ice cycles penetrating my skin.I thought to myself how someone with such a warm appearance could be so cold on the inside. Sad to say, I know this doesnââ¬â¢t sound like the best first impression but over the years as b ad as our first encounter was it was the best one yet. Because from here on out my so called daddy began to look a lot more like George Washington and Andrew Johnson. All I saw of him was the money he sent every month. Even though my dad may have stopped looking at me I kept my eye on him. Like I said earlier he lived right around the corner from me. I could lookout my bedroom window and see directly into his backyard.I would watch his every move like if he were my favorite TV show. He moved very quickly like a fire running through a dry forest. It was like he moved so quickly but looked as if he took his time because he was so smooth with it. All he did was go to work, watch late night re runs of games, and order out. At least thatââ¬â¢s all I got from watching through his backyard, trash and sliding glass door. He was so consistent like just as sure as Monday was coming after Sunday. He was very predictable, I felt as if Iââ¬â¢d seen enough. I know this may not sound like mu ch but this is all I knew of my father.I havenââ¬â¢t seen or looked for him in three years. I never even knew his name. I named him Randy due to the fact that IM his only child and my name is Brandy. I may have never got to have a full blown out conversation withâ⬠Randyâ⬠I know we are nothing alike. He is so empty. A cactus in the desert would have more life then he did. I never understood why or how my very own father could be so cold and emotionless towards me. But one thing I learned from my father was to appreciate what I do have and to stop worrying about what I donââ¬â¢t have. So if you were to ask me about my father today I will simply tell you ââ¬Å"Out of sight out of mind. ââ¬
